The primary purpose of AdBlue® is to reduce NOx emissions produced by diesel engines. NOx gases, which are highly reactive and harmful to the environment, contribute to air pollution and smog formation. AdBlue® plays a vital role in the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, an advanced emissions control technology. When diesel exhaust gases enter the SCR system, AdBlue® is injected into the hot exhaust stream. The urea in AdBlue® breaks down into ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The ammonia then reacts with NOx gases over the SCR catalyst, converting them into harmless nitrogen (N2) and water vapour (H2O). This process significantly reduces NOx emissions, ensuring diesel engines meet strict environmental standards while contributing to cleaner air.
