International Timber provides Thermowood Redwood for modern housing build in Glasgow
International Timber recently collaborated with Highline Homes to create a development consisting of six residential units, built within a conservation area of Glasgow.
The project on Queens Drive Lane features a stunning modern design, with a combination of both contemporary brick & timber cladding. Crucially for this build, the timber needed to complement the surrounding woodland and deliver a durable finish – something International Timber was able to deliver.
This build was also unique as all materials used in the construction had to be approved by the local authorities and meet sustainable credentials.
The environmentally friendly project also involved a tree replacement scheme, which led to the client choosing Thermowood Redwood for the build. This timber was perfect for fitting in with the surrounding trees in the area, providing a natural finish that met the specifications of this project.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, by using thermal modification Thermowood Redwood has many properties that make it perfect for use as outdoor cladding, such as longevity and durability against its surrounding conditions. The process, which is chemical-free using only heat and steam, means that the timber gains an increased service life and stability, in comparison to untreated redwood.
The build was completed during a challenging time for the construction industry, but with short lead times and good contacts, International Timber was able to deliver this project, supplied through Jewson Govan
Philip Archer, CEO, Highline Homes said: “Highline Homes has had a good business relationship with the Group and will continue to work with them moving forward. Having worked with International Timber for many years, I have received better response and had lead times reduced when my building requirements needed it.”
David Hogg, Project Manager at International Timber, said: “It was great to work with Highline Homes yet again on this amazing project. These homes fit in with their surroundings so well, and the use of Thermowood Redwood helps to give them an aesthetically pleasing natural wood. It is a perfect example of how treated timber can be used to help strengthen and beautify projects.”
